Sad, after being a customer and proponent of NLC, paying premiums for 20+ years without missing one payment in that 20 years, and then a first claim after 20 years NLC dropped the insurance. As a disabled Norwich resident this should bring shame on the organization and staff. I don't see how this is supporting and connecting our community. NLC should be ashamed of yourselves and it obviously points to your marketing material on your website is hollow. It seems to me this expresses disdain for the community and an outright money grab.

If you are a current customer think hard before you submit a claim. They will drop you. This in my opinion ia scam. Pay for 20 years, tens of thousands of dollars, and then have them drop you at your first issues.

Between the new homeowners insurance and the $2500 dollar tax increase in Norwich this year, between the both of them they are driving a disabled person out of their home as it's now become unaffordable. Homelessness, hear I come. I hope now that the house sits empty and becomes an eyesore like many other homes in NLC. Good job NLC. One more empty house in town and less taxes along with a homeless disabled person. No wonder houses are abandoned and rotting in eastern CT.

NLC Mutual insurance is shameful and I would caution any customers to think long and hard about submitting a claim. They will drop you with no repercussions

Disgraceful

PS, the claim total was less than my premiums over the last 20 years so they still made money on me. It's not like the poor insurance man lost money on me. State regulators should investigate how insurance companies are allowed to do this and continuing to operate in the state.

NLC, do better or get out.

Update 2/21/25 Claim Denied Insurance Canceled!
Update: 1/29/25 Still Zero Communication From NLC!
Cushman However Sent A Notice That They Are Dropping Our Insurance 2/24/25 Still With An Open NLC Claim Filed April 2024 With Zero Communication. NOW We Can Not Get Insurance With An Open Claim As NLC Canceled Our Insurance Because We Have A 10 Year Old Dog! A Dog With Zero Violations! The Dog Was Never A Problem But That Was The Excuse Used! How About The Roof? 10 Months! Puts The Scum In Scumbags.
Get This! My House, My Parents House, My Brothers House, 33 Years Of Payments Not A Single Dime From NLC On One Claim!
We Have Held A Homeowners Policy With NLC For 33 Years On 3 Homes! Never Filed A Claim! In April This Year 2024 A Storm Damaged My Roof, Shingles, All In The Yard After The Storm! I Called 3 Roofers For Estimates (2) Went Up On The Roof And Said That My Roof Sustained Significant Wind Damage And Had Many Missing Shingles And Sideways Damaged Shingles And That My Homeowners Would Pay To Replace The Roof, I Called NLC 8 Business Days After The Storm With (3) Estimates And A NLC Insurance Adjuster Came! Then Nothing, After A Few Weeks Of Calling I Am Informed That A Drone Pilot Will Be Coming To Fly A Drone For Inspection, Then Nothing, The Roofer Is Calling Asking What Is Going On Because Its Been 3 Months And The Roof Is Going To Begin Leaking And With All My Calls To NLC My Claim Is (Processing), Now It's Been Almost 4 Months And The Claim Has Been Sent To NLC Attorneys And I Get A Letter Yesterday From The NLC Attorneys That The Issue Is That It Took Me Almost 2 Weeks To Inform NLC Of The Damage! And Now Want To Set Up Zoom Meetings In A Few More Weeks As The Roofers Have Said The Roof Is Going To Leak If Not Leaking Already? It Has Been (8) Months!
While A Neighbor Sustained Storm Damage On The Same Storm, Same Date With A Different Insurance Company And Their Entire Roof Was Replaced Within 6 Weeks, Paid In Full Other Than a 1,000 Deductible! NLC Insurance! NLC Stands For New London Country For As Long As You Keep Paying But Once You File A Claim NLC Stands For (No Longer Covered) We Never Had A Problem With NLC For Over (3) Decades Because We Paid Our Premiums But Now That We Filed A Claim We Have Violated Company Policy Or Something And Now It's Excuses, Denials, Minimizations.
(3) Roofers Said That The Roof Sustained Substantial Wind/Storm Damage And The Roof Is GOING TO LEAK!
Our Health And Home Are At Stake Here!
Now Their Legal Team Is Asking For Building Plans, Design Plans, Architectural Plans, ETC. Town Records And We Have 10 Days To Provide A Long List Of Documents! Like Code Violations Etc. Failure To Provide The Documents Can Breach And Void Coverage! THREATS, Harassments And Building More Excuses To Deny Claims, Failure To Attend Their Zoom Meeting Will Breach Our Coverage?
We Paid NLC To Work For US, NLC Paid Attorneys To Work Against Us With Our Money! Welcome To GREED..

You Will Get A Generic Response From NLC President/Vic President As To How Important You Are To Them And How They Will Dive Into Your Concerns (That Was 5 Months Ago!) Again They Canceled Our Policy With An Open Claim From April 2024 So We Can't Get Insurance From An Insurance Company!
When They Come To Inspect Your Damage They Are Looking For Excuses To Drop Your Coverage After They Minimize Or Deny Your Claim But We Will Save Them The Trouble! The Minute (I) Replace The Roof NLC Is GONE! Dive Into That NLC The Damage Is Done And So Are We. (NLC) Pays For Legal Teams And Drone Pilots, Anything Not To Pay For Claims.
Remember This: Once You File A Claim Start Looking For INSURANCE Because A Few Months Later They Will Find Reasons To Drop You So If You Have NLC You Do Not Have INSURANCE, I Just Paid 20K To Replace My Own Damaged Roof While I'm Being Processed For 10 Mouths! Pathetic Business!
I Have Already Reported This To BBB Better Business Bureau.
Not A Dime Has Been Paid On This Claim in 10 Months After Paying 150 Thousand In Insurance To These Criminals! Zero Communication. Processing?

I have been with this company for just over 5 years. I am completely disgusted with this insurance. Just recently received notification that this insurance company is dropping me as of 9/24/24 due to my son's accident that happened in January 2024.

First off my son got into an accident during a winter storm due to the roads not being cleared off. Then they took forever to issue payment for the actual cash value of the totaled vehicle.

They also took several months to pay for the rental. The reason I knew that was because the rental place sent me notification that they hadn't been paid yet and were threatening if I didn't pay. I had to send proof from the rental place of non payment to the case worker so they could send payment.

NLC has been the worst insurance experience I’ve ever had in my entire life. I had a roofer tell me that my roof needed to be replaced due to storm damage and that I really needed to contact my insurance company. I contacted NLC insurance and have them come out to tell me they don’t see any storm damage at all and my multiple roofing companies didn’t know what they were talking about. (I paid to have my roof redone on my own $12 K). 4 months after my claim was denied I received an email from the insurance company telling me to prove that my roof got fixed and the chimney flashing was redone and that a gutter was fixed or they would drop us. They said a routine inspection was done and they found these items needed to be fixed. The truth is they used the adjuster to give them this info after I asked for the adjuster to come out. I replied that all these things were fixed 4 months ago too which they replied “prove it”. I told them that I was not going onto my roof to prove anything and that they could come back and reinspect it anytime without issue (all the work was done).
Today I got a letter that they are dropping me for not replacing my roof (it was replaced last November) for not replacing chimney flashing (also done 6 months ago). Had a gutter guy look at the gutter and tell me there is nothing wrong with it and it didn’t need any repair.
I am done being harassed by NLC
I am done with the poor communication on their part, emails only, terrible.
I am done with them all together
What a blessing to be able to move on from them
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY DON’T ADD ANY VALUE TO WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO “INSURE “

I have had my Homeowners policy with NLC for 17 years. My agent has quoted me with other companies every year and could never find a better rate. I get my bill in the mail and pay online with ease. I am thankful for their exceptional customer service and a real person that answers the phone.

I called today with a simple question and their customer service rep could not have been more rude for absolutely no reason. She then proceeded to hang up on me mid-conversation.

NLC insurance always was a very good insurance company for homeowners. Unfortunately that has changed!
After having coverage for many years, they have decided to Non renew with us due to two small claims in a 2 1/2 year time frame. Sad you have insurance for this purpose, and are penalized for it.
ALSO the last claim had taked 10% for DEPRECIATION- YET we have a 4% automatic inflation guard- an additional endorsement/cost. This does not make sense! That means if you have a complete loss of $300k you are charged $30k for depreciation
Sad they are no longer a small hometown company...
Be careful once you make a claim!
