While the concept of disability insurance is good and the Knights of Columbus offer a good product, the local customer service is horrible. To this date, I have tried to cancel my policy by leaving voicemails and emails, only to receive one phone call from my agent (Art). The general manager (Carlos) has been unresponsive. I have yet to receive a contract cancelation form. I had to reach out to my bank to have them stop-payment on the monthly deduction. Very poor customer service. Something must be going on behind the scenes that is causing a disruption. If you are considering their service, proceed with caution.

My experience with the Gutierreze Agency has been an absolute nightmare. I purchased long term care insurance (LTC) from one of the agents. That agent left the knights before finishing up my paperwork. My plan was cancelled without my knowledge a few months later and I only found out about it a year later. The same plan costs 4 times as much now as it did then. I trusted that the Knights would correct this problem but I was very wrong.

I reached out to the agency and spent the next several months getting stonewalled by Mr. Gutierrez. It took me months to get a phone meeting with him where he said there isn't anything to be done about it.

I upgraded the issue to speak with a grand knight. He told me that I needed to take responsibility for not completing the medical exam. As a consumer, I am not knowledgeable about insurance or the steps to sign up. That is what we have agents for. My agent was no longer with the company and the Gutierrez agency had not assigned anyone to ensure that the clients were taken care of. The medical screen never happened since I didn't know about it and the medical folks didn't have my number.

I don't like to attack the reputation of a business online but I have no other options at this point. The Gutierrez Agency showed a lack of personal responsibility, terrible compassion, poor customer service, and then dumped their mistake onto the customer.

Kind and knowledgeable people who convinced me they want to do only what will help the client. Unfortunately, not everyone can get the top rate on life insurance, disability, or long-term care. A medical evaluation is needed; otherwise, it was explained to me, “adverse selection” is pretty much guaranteed. I was examined. It was simple and was arranged and done quickly, at no charge. If medical indications required higher rates, I would have been able to reconsider.
