One star is far too generous. Mr. Larry Odelson served as my parents' CPA to do their 2021 income taxes following the death of their previous accountant. Mr. Odelson had taken over much of the former CPA's book of business - it was a friendly relationship, taxes were completed.

The following year they moved to another tax provider. At this point, it was discovered that Mr. Odelson had not included my mother's income on their joint filing. Their new accountant, Jim, immediately completed an amended tax form and my parents paid the IRS the amount left off their original filing. My mother contacted Mr. Odelson regarding the error. He looked up the paperwork and admitted that there was some kind of glitch in the system. He said he stood behind his work and could refile an amended form, which Jim had already done. My parents filed the amended form along with the back taxes. My mother told him she would speak with him if things didn't pan out, hoping this was resolved.

Months later, the IRS contacted my parents stating they have penalty and interest to pay adding to over $1000. My parents spoke with Mr. Odelson and he said to pay the interest so not to continue to build and he would reach out to IRS to clear up the rest. My parents followed his recommendation, wanting to deal with this mistake properly. (Unfortunately, that advice was incorrect because more interest was added to the final payment).

Months later, the IRS claimed the money was still due. After numerous unanswered phone calls and emails, we paid a drop-in visit to Mr. Odelson. He was unavailable and we spoke with his colleague. He called a few days later. At this point his attitude changed. He said since he didn't file the amended form, he was no longer responsible. My mother had heated words with him and that was the end of our contact.

My mother petitioned the IRS, to no avail. She now forced to pay the rest of this penalty do to an error on Mr. Oldeson's part, the businessman, the CPA, who would NOT stand behind his own work. My parents went to him as a recommendation from the accountant they had dealt with for over 30 years. They expected the same reputable service as they had in the past. This was far from true. The disrespect, unprofessionalism, and deceit needs to be called out.
