I have had a disappointing experience with the Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) in Buffalo Grove. Their curriculum is comparable to other math schools, but nothing particularly special. In fact, they lag behind in mental math compared to other programs that place a stronger emphasis on developing quick numerical reasoning skills. Given the high price tag, I expected a more well-rounded approach, but that has not been the case. However, the biggest issue isn’t just the curriculum—it’s their unethical and frustrating accounting practices.

Hidden Fees & Price Increases

One of the biggest issues with RSM Buffalo Grove is the way they handle tuition and fees. Every year, they sneak in additional administrative fees of $200–$300, with no clear explanation of what these charges cover. This is in addition to an outrageous 20% year-over-year tuition increase. There is absolutely no transparency in how they justify these hikes, making it feel like they are taking advantage of parents who are already investing heavily in their children’s education.

Advance Payment Policy

RSM requires parents to pay two months in advance, which is completely unreasonable. Imagine paying for a May class on March 1st—before your child has even completed the current semester! This feels more like a cash flow management scheme for the school rather than a fair and logical payment structure.

Extra Charge for Accounting Software

As if the constant fee increases weren’t enough, RSM also expects parents to pay separately for their accounting software. Most reputable educational institutions include administrative and accounting costs in their tuition. Charging parents extra for the very system that processes their own payments is absurd and unfair.

Final Thoughts

While the educational aspect of RSM is serviceable, their financial policies are a major red flag. Parents should not have to deal with surprise fees, excessive price hikes, and unfair payment policies. Unless RSM Buffalo Grove changes its approach to billing, I would advise families to think twice before enrolling.

Both my daughters went to this school, and there is no doubt that this school does wonders. Both my kids are top of their math classes in school, and a special thank you goes to the principal of this school, Anna Kozhemykov. She was the teacher of both my daughters, and they say she is very good at explaining things.I recommend this school to children who want to increase their knowledge in mathematics.

The staff is very rude and impolite. Even if you have to miss a class, they don't provide make-up classes without exception.

RSM has great enrichment program! I am amazed of the progress my child had made for a year from accelerated to advanced class.
They help the kids to understand the concept of math. I regret I did not sign my child years ago.
The center director Anna is an amazing person and professional!

We have been coming here only 2 weeks. The lady at the front desk super rude.
Our teacher seems kind and positive. You should talk to the teacher about kids skills and problems, otherwise it's just a waste of time and money. No one will take a close look and care about a kid.

Wonderful teachers and a great system that has helped both of my kids. I came to them 3 years ago and wish we had signed up much earlier. My children have both flourished thanks to their courses, tutoring and homework plans. My kids are both in middle school now and have significantly more confidence in their math courses as well as working ahead of school plans. Excellent extracurricular math school for children.
Staff is professional and communicates effectively to
parents and students. They have being working as a team by helping kids in developing problem solving skills thru an exclusive program and personalized approach when needed. After several years with RSM, my child considers math her favorite class in school now.
