AC Repair quoted me a $200 fee to come out and provide service for a leaking AC. I asked if it was a quick fix would there be other expenses and the person said no. Turns out that $200 did not include labor which brought the total bill to $380. The work involved no part replacements and involved 15 minutes of troubleshooting. The technician was great, did a fantastic job.

I got in touch with this business to fix my AC unit. They charged $200 to come in-person, which already seemed like a lot for an air conditioning that cost about the same amount, but fine, it's New York prices and they had an entire 10-minute commute from their Mott St office. They told me they could only come by at 7 pm.

They arrived at 8:40.

When he finally took a look at my AC, he turned it on, stuck a screw driver through the bars, and spun the internal rotor to get it going. He said it was impossible to fix it beyond that, and instead I'd have to spin the rotor manually with a long stick whenever I wanted to run my AC. This whole process took about a minute. He billed me another $150 for that.

I spent over double the price of a new air conditioning to have this guy come to my apartment, just for him to show up late, spend 30 seconds prodding at it, and then leave without actually fixing anything.

I realize that with global warming and the garbage crisis it's always better to fix than to replace, but if these are the types of business I have to deal with to replace something, the planet can bite the bullet on this one.
